Prosthetics is the design, fabrication and fitting of custom-made artificial limbs for patients who have lost limbs as a result of congenital disorders, diabetes, vascular diseases, traumatic injuries, or cancer. These devices will restore, function and appearance of a full or partial missing limb. Because of vast differences in the human anatomy, the fabrication of a prosthetic device is necessarily an intricate, custom procedure requiring a high degree of skill and sophisticated technology. The preliminary or temporary prosthesis is followed by a definitive prosthesis as soon as the residual limb is stable.

The design of the prosthesis is determined by the patient's physical changes, activity level, and functional needs. Amputees generally require a new device every few years for the remainder of their lives. Children, due to rapid growth rates and high activity levels, along with extremely active adults need new prostheses on a more frequent basis. Prosthetic adjustments, repairs, realignment, and component upgrading are also aspects of ongoing treatment. Depending upon their complexity, prostheses represent a substantial investment of the health care dollar. Yet, studies have shown that, thanks to advanced designs and modern materials, those who require prostheses are most likely fully and successfully rehabilitated of all segments of the physically challenged population. Because of the improved function it allows, an appropriate prosthesis is an expenditure that more than pays for itself.




Orthotics is the design, fabrication, fitting and use of custom-made and off-the-shelf braces. These braces are designed to provide external support to areas such as knee, spinal, neck and cervical braces and foot orthotics. These devices are designed to treat such things as weakened or injured joints and/or muscle groups. Musculoskeletal disorders are ailments of the back, extremities or joints caused by traumatic injuries, chronic conditions, diseases, congenital disorders or injuries resulting from sports or other activities. In some instances, it is necessary to design and fabricate a custom orthosis for a specific need. The orthotist also may custom fit an off-the-shelf device to the patient's dimensions, or incorporates additional components to achieve the desired results. An orthosis may be worn temporarily until a weakness or injury is overcome, or on a permanent basis to facilitate impaired function due to a congenital or degenerative condition.

Cranial Molding Helmets


A Cranial Molding Orthosis is a custom made helmet designed to fit an infant's head for a period of 2-4 months. Cranial remolding orthoses is used to treat deformational plagiocephaly, brachycephaly, scaphocephaly and other head shape deformities in infants 3—18 months of age. Our Certified Practitioners use the FDA approved STARband product made by Orthomerica. A 3d scan is carefully taken of the infants head and sent to Orthomerica's facility for fabrication. A Cranial Orthosis is used effectively in patients that are at least 3 months of age, but not greater than 18 months of age.
